Talk to Park

Conversational AI automobile concept

ParkReady was designed in 24 hours during a hackathon. While the idea is young, there is huge potential for cars to adopt these voice assistants. After all, no one likes to search for parking.

Challenge

Designing for speed + efficiency

You reach your destination, but can't find parking. Minutes pass, frustrations rise and still nowhere to park. What if you knew where to park ahead of time? ParkReady would provide real-time parking availability without the distraction of a screen.

Goals

Treat designing as writing

Aligning on a shared process with my two partners made the project run smoothly from the start. Since we all also identified as writers, it made sense to compare our design methodology to what we would do as if writing an essay.

Collaborate for an MVP

We could only pick a handful of goals that the Minimum Viable Product would accomplish. From there, we each contributed based on our strengths. As the most proficient in Voiceflow, I built out the high fidelity version after my partners worked on the flows + content on Miro

Results

  • We created happy paths (and some error paths) for key scenarios that included price, navigation, and alternative options.

  • Earcons + sound effects were included as indicators of different actions to decrease the cognitive load on users (rather than large amounts of audio)

  • Other preferences such as proximity to final destination, charging station availability, and disability parking were also taken into account during conversations.

Further exploration with current IoT and urban tech solutions could increase the viability of this concept. I would also add more conversation paths to account for device or app integrations (i.e. map commands, parking meters, garage sensors).
